Making complex spreads
Assignments from the third course of the online Graphic Design Specialization offered by The California Institute of Arts (CalArts) on the platform Coursera. This is divided into four weeks, each week progressing with assignment That helped in making final project for fourth week.
Week- 1 Visual Research
For this first assignment I had to prepare and present visual research on a subject ( Indian Peacock ), including things that are associated with the subject, to begin to define and spark ideas about imagemaking in the form of a moodboard. Including various angles, illustrations, patterns and forms.
Week- 2 Range of Representation
This week I had to make 5 images that show a range of representation, from realistic to abstract as follows:
Photographic (closest to representing realistic image, or a “reality”)
Hand or digital drawing (observational, some degree of naturalism or realism)
Stylized, graphic line or vector drawing (more of an interpretive, simplified or decorative representation)
Geometric shapes (abstract)
Word or phrase (really, really abstract)
Week- 3 Composing Simple Spreads
To prepare for the final assignment in this course—an 8-page book composed with images & illustrations —I tried out some of the compositional strategies like "Scale" , "Space" and "Figure & Ground" on three single spreads.
Using 2 or more images, I made three compositions on three separate spreads that exhibit one of the strategies for compositional hierarchy: scale, space, and figure & ground.
Then, on the last three spreads, I created three iterations from the each three compositional strategies.
Week- 4 Composing a Complex Narrative in a book.
In this final week and final assignment I had to make an 8-page book composed with images & illustrations showcasing majestic side of Indian Peacock in monsoon season.

Visual Narrative :-
Peacock's are known for their majestic appearance and elegance. But also The way They Dance when monsoon or rain arrives. I tried to form a narrative around The enchanting dance of Indian Peacock through means of various Imagemaking techniques.
